What I Wore in 2021

What I Wore in 2021

Is it really 2022? Is 2021 really over? Are we still in a pandemic? Yes, yes and yes. While 2021 was generally a pretty terrible year the world over, I still got dressed. And frankly, getting dressed most days (full disclosure, there were many, many days of leggings and tees) brought me a hell of a whole lot of JOY. My rules for getting dressed are simple: it needs to be comfortable (no scratchy fabrics, no poor fits, no special underwear required), it needs to be cool (cool shape, color and/ or print) and it needs to make me feel SOMETHING. Whether that's joyful, badass, witty, sharp, whatever it may be, my clothing has to say something.

So, on those days where I made it out of my slippers and into something a little more polished, here are the Alice Alexander pieces I wore most.

The Ina Blouse in Linen

This summer was HOT. But never fear, my trusty Ina blouses in linen were my summer time uniform. Made of a substantial but totally breathable 100% linen fabric, the bright colors and bold prints of our Ina blouses kept me cool and stylish. What I love about a button down blouse is it’s versatility. Wear it buttoned up and tucked in. Leave a few buttons undone and untucked. Or leave it opened and layered.

The Tracee Pant in Linen

The Tracee pants are an absolute delight. Super wide leg, super high rise, elastic waist, big pockets and belt loops--all while looking totally polished. I love them paired with a fitted top (pictured) or go for an oversized look. For this design we chose a 240gsm weight linen which is really significant. Most linen products on the market don’t come anywhere close to this weight. And what’s great about linen is no matter how heavy the fabric is, it’s fiber structure allows for total breathability. So you get substantial pant and total coverage without overheating.

The Barry Top in Wool/ Tencel

I absolutely LOVE this top. The fabric is silky, soft, lightweight and super stretchy. I’ve worn it in temps ranging 30-70 degrees which is why I call it a 3 season top. My favorite version is the fuschia hot pink, because I'm always drawn to brights. To keep it looking sharp wear after wear I suggest washing on cold and air drying.

The Tracee Pant in Black Denim

These. Are. So. Cool. And infinitiely better than skinny jeans. Paired with a tee-shirt, white sneakers, leather jacket and a red lip it’s got that je ne sais quoi, don’t ya think?

The Janis Skirt in Black

Another denim alternative, the Janis skirt in black twill is an excellent staple. Made of a sturdy cotton denim twill this skirt is perfect for year round wear. I love it styled with sneakers, boots and sandals.
